Partner Charity

We support a different charity each year, and our charity for 2017 is Chailey Heritage.

Our charity for 2016 was the Mid Sussex Branch of Parkinson's UK.

The Mid Sussex Branch of Parkinson’s UK was our Charity Partner for the 2016 Christmas Tree Festival, and we raised £7,115 for them.

One person in every 500 has Parkinson’s so that’s about 127,000 people in the UK. A lack of the chemical dopamine in the brain causes the symptoms of tremor, stiffness and mobility difficulties. Other lesser known problems include, depression, sleep disturbance, speech and swallowing difficulties. There’s currently no cure, but drugs and treatments are available to manage many of the symptoms.

The Mid Sussex Branch is the local support group and offers information, friendship and support to people living with Parkinson’s, their Carers and families. We arrange social and fundraising events and run weekly exercise and hydrotherapy sessions, communication skills classes and a choir, to help keep people with Parkinson’s as active and independent as possible. We even run an annual Arts competition and keep in touch through a regular newsletter, called Shakers and Movers.

As we receive no financial support from the National Office of Parkinson’s UK we rely on our own fundraising events and the generous support of the local community to fund our varied activities.  Thank you for your support.
